Coming soon: To support celebrations of the centenary, the Journal of Co-operative Studies will publish a special issue.
As part of the celebrations for the centenary of the Woodcraft Folk in 2025, UCL Press are publishing the first major academic book of essays on aspects of the history of the organisation.
The volume edited by Professor Douglas Bourn from UCL and Richard Palser explores aspects of the history of Woodcraft Folk, particularly its international work, its relationships with the labour movement and the changing role of young people within the movement. The volume begins with a chapter from Professor Annebella Pollen from Brighton University on the contribution of Leslie Paul, the movement’s founder. Subsequent chapters look at aspects of the the role of folk music, the movements relationship to the eugenics movement and the impact of recent research on youth engagement.
The event will include brief presentations by the editors and several of the chapter authors.
