The first Rochdale-style co-operative society was established in Osaka in 1879. Since then, the co-operative movement in Japan has evolved in a distinctive manner.

In order to commemorate IYC 2025, an International Co-operative Research Symposium is to be held in Osaka, Japan.The event is being organised in collaboration with the Japan Society for Co-operative Studies and the Korean Society for Co-operative Studies.
