On Monday 4 December 2023 we hosted a talk and question & answer session with Ian Snaith. Ian is a co-operative lawyer - both as an academic at the University of Leicester, and as a practitioner, most recently at Anthony Collins Solicitors. As the editor of the main practitioner text: Handbook on Co-operative and Community Benefit Society Law, Ian Snaith has in-depth knowledge of co-operative law here in the UK, and has also contributed to developments on co-operative law internationally.

In the talk, Ian was asked:

1) What piece of work are you most proud of?
2) What advice would you give to a lawyer getting into co-operative law?
3) What would you like to see happen in the future.

He reflected on his career, his first co-operative law book ‘The Law of Co-operatives’ (1984, Waterlow Publishers Limited), and set out thoughts on the current Law Commission review on the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014.

The session was chaired by UKSCS Trustee, Ian Adderley.

UK Society for Co-operative Studies is registered in England and Wales as a charitable incorporated organisation Number 1175295. Our registered office is Holyoake House, Hanover Street, Manchester, M60 0AS.
