Publications

The Society for Co-operative Studies was established in April 1967 and the inaugural meeting, held at the Co-operative College, Stanford Hall, Leicestershire on 3 and 4 April, was attended by over 60 participants from universities and colleges, trade unions, and local, sectional, and national co-operative organisations.  The meeting also announced and agreed the publication of the Bulletin. 

The Society for Co-operative Studies Bulletin was published between 1967 and 1985 providing information about the Society, its activities and information on research and development of the co-operative movement locally, nationally, and internationally.

In 1985, The Society became a registered charity ('UK' was later added to its name) and the Bulletin changed its name to the Journal of Co-operative Studies - the name it retains to the present day.

In 2025, the Co-operative Press in association with the UKSCS published Co-operatives: Linking practice and theory. A primer of the co-operative movement written by UKSCS's Ian Adderley. 

The book is aimed at a broad readership of policy makers, researchers, academics, and practitioners looking to expand their understanding of co-operative forms and structures and to explore co-operative ideology, principles, and values. The purpose of the book is not to set out anything new, but to synthesise what is already there and to make it readily available in one handy volume.
