Building societies - Mutualities or PLCs?  A case for mutuality

Abstract

 It's hard to make the case for why an organisation with well over a century of highly successful trading would give up a major trading asset without good reason. But by planning to convert from mutual to PLC status, some building societies are ready to do just that. This article questions the advantages in conversion and provides an argument for retaining mutual status.
