Abstract

The relation of the Co-operative Wholesale Society and the Co-operative Retail Services has long been prominent on the agenda of the co-operative consumer movement. In 1988, a special sub-committee of the CWS board reaffirmed its position in 'broad support in principle' of a merger between the two societies. In this paper, three contributors set out their views on the issues and standards they would apply in judging in judging any recommendations that may emerge.
