Incentives in co-operatives

Abstract

This article considers the modest returns on purchases (the dividend) for consumers due to ploughing back earnings into increased investment along with the issue of shares allocations for employees. It looks at examples from Mondragon, Plymouth and South Devon consumer co-operative and United Co-operatives in relation to employees sharing in the growth of assets in proportion to the value of the work they contribute.
