Abstract
This special issue of the Journal of Co-operative Studies analyses worker co-operatives and the community contexts in which they are embedded, asking whether, how, and to what extent these organisations engage with and contribute to their wider communities. By focusing on co-operativism’s rootedness in local settings, its solidarity with diverse stakeholders, and its commitment to inclusivity, the issue takes up the concerns articulated in the International Co-operative Alliance's co-operative Principle 7 concern for the community. At the same time, the guest editors foreground worker co-operatives as a distinctive form of co-operation, critically evaluating their capacity to foster community resilience and drive transformative local change.
