Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the 2000 Co-operative Congress seminar on 'Membership in the new economy'. It seeks to provde an outline of how the 'new co-op' could use new technologies to develop relationships with members, to increase the number of customers who become members, and to enhancwe member participation. It is one of three papers presented to a seminar on 'Co-operative opportunities' on March 1, 2001in Manchester. The two other papers by Roger Jones and Cliff Mills are also included in this issue.
