The International Co-operative Alliance was founded in London, England on 19 August 1895 during the 1st Co-operative Congress. In attendance were delegates from co-operatives from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, England, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, India, Italy, Switzerland, Serbia, and the USA. The International Cooperative Alliance advocates the interests and success of cooperatives, providing a global voice and forum for knowledge, expertise and co-ordinated action.

Co-operatives Build a Better World

The 2025 United Nations International Year of Co-operatives (IYC2025) theme will be Co-operatives Build a Better World, showcasing the enduring global impact cooperatives have everywhere. This theme puts a spotlight on how the cooperative model is an essential solution to overcome many global challenges and continues to play an important role in accelerating efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
